Media companies

Most companies are S.A corporations or limited liability companies that were created for the management of the media outlet of which they are owner. Most of them are not active in other businesses. There are also public institutions (national Radio and television) of which the state is the owner.

Al Karama Holding, which replaced Princess Holding (belonging to the son-in-law of Ben Ali) after the revolution, manages several companies confiscated by the state, including media companies (Dar Assabah, Shems FM, Zitouna FM).

Some companies are diversifying their activities, such as Nessma Broadcast that just launched a mobile operator (Nessma Mobile).

The companies that own shares in these media companies may however have various activities (Insurance, Investment Fund), may be part of Tunisian media groups (Maghreb Media which publishes the weekly Réalités and is a shareholder in the company that owns Business News) or foreign groups (Mediaset, the Italian media group linked to Silvio Berlusconi, is one of the shareholders of Nessma Broadcast).
